Cool Find

The Bodum Osiris stovetop kettle.

I'm crazy for well designed and cool looking kitchen essentials, especially those items that are left out on view on a daily basis.  I came across this at Morba yesterday and plan on buying one for my own kitchen.  I'm always trying to do too many things at once and my last stove top kettle had a melt down when I left it on the burner and forgot about it (without the whistle attachment cause that scares the wits out of our cat).  So I've been doing without one for quite a while now because in my own kitchen,,,,not just any 'ol kettle will do - since it lives on my stovetop its gotta look good!

My search for a new kettle is now over thanks to this cool design by Bodum.  The Osiris kettle was originally designed for the museum shop at the Museum of Modern Art.  Its not just great looking, the wider base means that water boils 50% faster than in other teakettles and will boil 1L of water in just 8 min.   Its made of polished stainless steel with a stay cool nylon handle.  And at only $69, I think its an affordable design splurge!

  1. Hi Carol
I love your blog ... and I look forward to reading your postings.

I share your passion for well designed kitchen essentials. It is even more important when you have a small kitchen, with limited counter space (you may recall our small galley kitchen). I have been looking for a coffee maker, which makes a great "brew", is compact and of course is well designed. The nespresso machines are interesting, however I don't have the luxury of space to have both a coffee maker and an espresso machine. Any thoughts -suggestions - finds discovered during your shopping travels?

Might I suggest it may make an interesting blog entry, particularly with the spectacular kitchen renos you have completed and posted?

hope you are well ... keep on writing!

  2. Hi Gabriella!
Thanks so much for reading and your lovely comments. Great points you make about coffee makers and small space kitchens. Myself,,,a few years ago I found a small size Breville espresso machine (looks great too!) which sits on my counter (it makes EXCELLENT espresso drinks better than Starbucks or Second Cup etc), and for regular coffee I use a french press which this takes up very little space and either goes away in a cupboard when not in use or sits on my stove top. I have to admit I'm starting to see a lot of great looking kettles but not too many good looking coffee makers.

Now that you've put this notion in my head about small scale and good looking coffee/esspresso makers I'll definitely be on the look-out and be sure to let you know if I find anything!

Hope you're doing well, so good to hear from you. : )

    Carol
