Modern Wing Back Dining

Slipcovered Settee

I’ve been in furniture sourcing mode for clients the past couple of months so many of my posts are furniture related this summer simply because that’s what I’m entrenched in right now.   Last week I came across this hostess chair and settee by Lee Industries and not only proposed them for a client, I just had to add it to my list of favorites.  There are so many things to love about these pieces.  The modern wing back style with clean straight lines means they work well in traditional and contemporary spaces and can go either casual or formal depending on the fabric selections.  What’s even better is that these models come with a slipcover option, either full length or short, making them super practical for kitchens and families.  The slipcover itself can be made tailored with piped edges (shown above) or with inverted seams for a truly chic look (shown below).

Curved Back Version

The settee in particular, I’m crazy about.  The seat height is 20" so its just right for dining.   Paired with a pedestal table it becomes a perfect cozy banquet that you or your guests will feel special sitting at - who isn’t drawn to the cocooning comfort of a wing back!   Most of all, its perfect for people who dream of having a banquet in their kitchen or dining space but don’t have their own handyman who can build one for them or don’t want to bother with the challenges of contracting someone to design and build one from scratch - this is a perfect solution and no awkward window sills, electrical outlets or heating vents to worry about.   In kitchens where often there’s already an abundance of built-in cabinetry, this freestanding ‘banquet’ on legs provides some relief from all the cabinetry and you can take it with you if you move.  The curved version can create an intimate dining area in a small condo or house without needing a lot of floor space.
